Cancer Smart programme promoting health awareness in Kent and Medway
The Cancer Smart programme is changing lives across Kent and Medway by empowering residents to take charge of their own health.
With a focus on encouraging self-checking, knowing the signs and symptoms and how to reduce the risk of cancer, this initiative has provided communities with the knowledge and confidence to recognise early signs of cancer and make informed health choices.
Over the past year, the Kent and Medway Cancer Alliance and Social Enterprise Kent (SEK) have been promoting the Cancer Smart programme and sharing information on early diagnosis and the symptoms of cancer.
Celebrating Cancer Smart
Residents have taken part in the development of cancer awareness videos to share their personal experiences and motivate others to perform self-checking and take part in cancer screening programmes.
An event was held last week to celebrate the one-year anniversary of Cancer Smart, with those involved invited to watch their videos and to celebrate the success of the programme.

KMCA Director Ian Vousden said: “The Cancer Smart programme is vital to help increase early cancer diagnosis in Kent and Medway. The videos will be a fantastic resource to promote cancer screening and raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of cancer. A special thank you to those who shared their personal stories.”
