Patient and Public Engagement Strategy 2025-27

Our patient and public engagement strategy 2025-27 sets out how we will involve patients and the public in our work.

It has been developed by our Patients Working Together Group and has three aims:

  1. Strive to achieve meaningful co-production and co-design for service improvements across all work streams and priorities of the Kent and Medway Cancer Alliance.
  2. Involve cancer lived experience partners, their friends, family, and other stakeholders, ensuring all members of society are able to contribute, irrespective of age, race, gender, disability, belief, or any other protected characteristic, while building links with underrepresented communities.
  3. Ensure that patient partners are fully informed of changes made, or not, due to their engagement.

Strive to achieve meaningful co-production and co-design for service improvements across all work streams and priorities of the Kent and Medway Cancer Alliance.

Objectives: 

  • To make sure that patient partners are members of each work stream and their contribution is of equal value.
  • All members to continue to highlight and promote patient partner involvement, with the Macmillan User Involvement Manager overseeing this work

Outcomes: 

  • All workstreams and focus groups will have at least two patient partners.
  • Terms of Reference of work streams will include patient partners.
  • Evidence of patient partner contribution in co-design process.

Objectives:

  • Actively seek patient partners from within the many diverse communities of Kent and Medway.
  • Engage with partners in a way that is accessible and acknowledges individual needs.
  • Work with professionals including trusts, primary and community care, local authorities and cancer centres.

Outcomes:

  • Evidence our patient partners reflect the diverse communities in Kent and Medway.

Objectives: 

  • Patient partners receive feedback on their contributions.
  • Share updates detailing impact/outcomes (celebrating good news and identifying challenging and ongoing work) via social media and system-wide colleagues.

Outcomes: 

  • Evidenced increase in patient partner membership.
  • Feedback that patient partners feel valued and their suggestions have been properly considered.
